Pinching Zinnias

You start seeing your zinnias growing. Why on earth would you want to cut off some of the beautiful leaves?

Pinching Zinnias seems counterproductive. You're cutting off precious growth! Believe me when I say, it's worth it! The result is tons (a little exaggeration) of flowers.

You wait until it grows two sets of true leaves before pinching them off. The zinnia will then start sending off growth from each node, producing even more flowers.

Here is one that I pinched off last week. Notice that it's already sending out growth from each side.

If I can find a picture from my zinnias last year. I will add it. They got a little crazy towards the end. Each day I had so many flowers that I could put in a vase on my table, and I had only planted a few zinnias. This year I've planted way more, and more varieties.

Happy gardening!
