First Spring Garden Tour in '22

Here we are at the end of March. I think it's fair to say that those of us here in central Texas, zone 8b, have probably transplanted everything out and direct sowed whatever we are growing this year. I am no exception.
I'm very excited for this growing season! I feel like I learned some really valuable lessons last year that I get to put in to practice this year.

I'm excited to share this first tour and then look back as the garden progresses.

This is what I like to lovingly refer to as the berry patch. We live in a rental house so I'm currently growing my blueberries and raspberries in containers. I have a Bushel & Berry Blueberry Buckle, Bushel & Berry Peach Sorbet, and a Pink Lemonade blueberry from Stark Bros.
My two raspberry plants are also Bushel & Berry. They're the Raspberry Shortcake, also available on Stark Bros.
Last year was our first year growing blueberries. We had a handful of blueberries grow. Excited to see the growth this year.
We didn't have any raspberries grow last year. My plant ended up looking like it had died, but I recently found a shoot coming out of the soil. Holding out hope that it's a runner! To be determined. I will update when I know for sure.

This is where my daughter has planted 5 short stuff sunflowers. We're excited to see these grow.

This is what I consider the entrance to my raised beds. The two front green pots hold my rosemary and lavender. Behind them in the 5 gallon buckets I have zinnias and one sugar baby bush watermelon planted. The plans for the others are some determinate tomatoes and possibly some peppers.
In this 10 x 4 raised bed I have planted tomatoes, dragon tongue beans, purple tomatillos, cilantro, basil,  nasturtium, strawflower,  and zinnias.
The tomato varieties I have planted are:
Black Krim
Cherokee Purple
Pink Thai
Amish Paste
Korean Long
This year I'm trying to do more interplanting. Along with my tomatoes, I have interplanted dragon tongue beans. They tend to get a little droopy during our afternoon sun; my goal is that the tomatoes will provide a little shade and reprieve from that hot, afternoon sun.

In this 4x8 bed I planted glass gem corn,  along with some golden zucchini and many different flowers.

In this bed, which is also a 4x8, I direct sowed Hill Country Okra and I will be transplanting out different kinds of sweet and hot peppers.

This is my little herb garden. This is my first year growing herbs. I don't know why I've waited until now. The grow bag has mint varieties, variegated lemon thyme,  and dill. The containers in front have cumin, marjoram, and Italian oregano. In the raised beds I also have basil and cilantro.  I direct sowed some dwarf lemon cilantro. Inside I'm growing a lemon basil and sowed (for about the 4th time) some more orangelo thyme.

These stackable containers were purchased from dollar tree for $1.25 a tier. These are pretty nifty. In the two top tiers I have different varieties of strawberries planted. Under that I'm testing out growing some red swan beans. I wanted to see how their production will go being planted in a container.

This concludes the first garden tour of 2022. Excited to share as everything progresses!

Happy Gardening!
