Seed Progress Two Weeks In
Hello!
It's been a few weeks since I shared my seed starting supplies. Since then I've started quite a few seeds that I thought I would share with you today. Here is a list of what seeds I have started here in central Texas, zone 8b.
Puma Peppers
Purple Beauty Bell Peppers
Purple Tomatillos
Orangelo Thyme
Basil
Cilantro
Black Krim Tomatoes
Cherokee Purple Tomatoes
Pink Thai Tomatoes
Amish Paste Tomatoes
Korean Long Tomatoes (also a paste tomato)
Rosita Eggplant
Sugarcane
Echinacea
Pearl Double Yarrow
Strawflower
Marigolds
Black Peony
Gray Poppy
Two varieties of Lisianthus (notorious for being difficult to grow)
Ranunculus
On January 2nd I sowed puma peppers, and purple beauty bell pepper, tomatillos, thyme, echinacea, pearl double yarrow.
Peppers are notorious for having a hard time germinating without heat. The recommendation is to put them on a heat mat. Want to know what I did? I turned my oven on low, turned it off, opened the door, and then placed my seeds inside. Now, I can't tell you whether or not that helped with germination. So far every pepper seed that I planted, has sprouted!
On January 7th, I sowed the strawflower and lisianthus. So far the only flowers that have germinated are the strawflower.
On January 15th, I sowed all of the tomato varieties, basil, cilantro, marigolds, and sugarcane.
The cilantro just started sprouting today. I have no experience with sugarcane, this is an experiment for me. I'm going to try to grow the sugarcane in containers and see how that goes.
Getting excited for spring! Here's to the upcoming growing season!
