This week in the zone 8b garden

This weather has been all over the place. From plunging to 28- to returning to the 80s the next day. My broccoli hasn't done the best with the heat that we've been receiving. It formed heads but they stayed small and they started looking like they were going to bloom.

I've started more broccoli seeds for a round two. Hopefully cooler days are ahead and my heads will produce better. Have any tips on broccoli growing? Leave them in the comments below.

When I was walking around the garden I noticed a couple of things. First, there seems to be some sort of sunflower seedling that sprouted. Second, a sprout that is some of bean sprout. I had red swan and royal burdundy in this area. I'm just going to let them both grow for now. See what happens!

I sprinkled carrot seeds haphazardly in one of my beds. They've sprouted so we'll see what happens! I haven't succesfully grown carrots, so if they grow, I'll be excited!

This week I planted these Sugar Magnolia peas. I've probably already said this about too many thing, but, I'm excited for these! I know peas like pretty cool weather, hopefully we'll be headed that direction as they get ready to sprout!

That's it for the garden this week. I will update with progress on my broccoli seedlings and when the peas start sprouting!

Thank you for following along on my beginner garden progress!!

  1. It’ll be interesting to see how the broccoli does once the weather stabilizes a bit. I feel like the plants are all confused by these temperatures that can’t make up their minds.
